Question #3: Am I being true to my values?

My values…

Integrity. I try to live my life with the upmost of integrity and expect that from others. It may be old-fashioned, but I believe you should say what you mean and mean what you say.

Honesty. I expect to be trusted and also look to trust others. I may be overly optimistic or naive, but I believe in trusting someone to do the right thing and I do my best to be a trustworthy individual.

Responsibility. I hold myself accountable for the decisions that I make in life. It is my responsibility if things are going well in my life and, equally, if things are not going well.

Fulfillment. I want to feel like I am making a difference with my life.

Love. I don’t want to hold back. I want my family and friends to know how important they are to me and I want to express it either through words or actions.

But am I living true to my values?

I think last year has taught me that my values should be restructured a little.

  1. Fulfillment
  2. Integrity
  3. Honesty
  4. Love
  5. Responsibility

The lack of fulfillment in my life has really started to have a negative impact on my life. I started to spend all my time daydreaming about a different life. But I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Then the daydreaming became an obsession.

Should I quit my job and travel?

Should I teach english internationally?

Should I go back to school for a new career?

Should I look for a new job?

Should I…

Should I…

Should I….

But…then I found Financial Independence. I realized that everything I wanted to do would be easier with one thing. Money.

I came up with a plan for FI, with the help of “Your money or Your Life”. I determined how much money I spent each month and put a plan into action to reduce spending, and increase my savings. I still had no real plan for what I might do if I had Financial Independence, but I had something real to focus on. I could create unlimitied possibilities.

I highly suggest that you spend a few minutes determining your own values. And then ask yourself the question “Am I being true to my values?”
